Pres. Emeritus of the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians against Corruption (GOPAC)
John Williams was a Member of Parliament for St Albert Alberta for fifteen years serving on the Public Accounts Committee, eight years as chair of the committee. He founded the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians against Corruption (GOPAC) in 2002 to engage parliamentarians against corruption and served as chair until 2008; its CEO until 2013, and now as President Emeritus and Special Envoy.
Mr. Williams is an accountant (CGA) and sits on the board of a development agency and a research institute. He was also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Corruption.
He was recognised by his profession as a Fellow of the Association in 1999 and also awarded their highest recognition, the John Leslie Award. He is an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Edmonton.
He lives in Edmonton, Alberta, is married and has three children.
